Fiber Optics, Strobes, light pipe, custom fixtures, it all had to withstand the highest recorded wind load on earth and then some. They even had to shorten it a bit so the airplanes could get over it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere Tower Las Vegas is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.

The 12-story pod -- the diamond -- is criss-crossed with 1 1/2 miles of side emitting fiber-optic cable  that change through eight different colors.    It's also capable of pulsating and chasing effects that make the pod appear to rotate. "The criss-cross replicates the facets of a diamond. And there are 54 strobe lights, one at each intersection. The flashes resemble facets that reflect like the inside of a diamond. That goes for the animated pulsating light show emitting from directly under the pod that's choreographed to keep step with an original musical score.  Everything is operated by a control system that runs as many as 300 simultaneous effects. Depending on  where you are you'll see something completely different.  The price tag? $2.5 million (This is an award winning project)
